Review: "Mrs. Lincoln's Sisters" by Jennifer Chiaverini

I have always loved reading about Abraham and Mary Lincoln, both non and historical fiction. Jennifer Chiaverini is a favorite author of mine, so this was the perfect book for me. This story did not disappoint. Ms. Chiaverini found a unique viewpoint to approach the story of Mary Todd Lincoln, thru her sister’s eyes. The book sheds new light into what may have made Mary act and react as she did. It also sheds light on the lives of her sisters.

Ms. Chiaverini chose a very distinctive style to tell the story. The time period interchanges between the early part of Mary’s life starting in 1825 until her death. Each chapter is told in the voice of a different sister, allowing you to glimpse their views and personalities and their interactions with Mary. Each had their own thoughts and methods on the best way to deal with her.

Once again with this book, Ms. Chiaverini proves what a masterful storyteller she is. With her blend of facts and fiction, she tells a story that you won’t be able to put it down.
