Review: "The Fifth Petal" by Brunonia Berry

In 1989, there occurs a horrendous murder in Salem. Three beautiful women, professed witches are found murdered with their throats sliced open. The only two people to survive the slaughter is the young daughter of the one woman, Callie and their mentor, Rose. Callie was hidden in the bushes and didn’t see what happened and Rose is left senseless, babbling about a banshee. Fast forward to present day and the death of a young thug. Once again Rose is involved, and the cold case is reopened to find out what really took place.

The plot is fast moving, it twists and turns and keeps you in its grip. The characters are highly developed. You feel as if you know them and can relate to their dilemmas. You want the case to be solved so everyone can be at peace. It also brings up some alternative healing practices that I was motivated to look into.

This story was a real page turner. I could not put it down. At first, I thought the storyline was predictable and I had it figured out, but the ending is a shocking bombshell that will leave you shaking your head. This book can be read and enjoyed by teen to adult readers. I highly it, especially if you like to be taken on a thrill ride from page one.
