Review: "Eleanor" by Jason Gurley

Eleanor’s life has been a series of tragedies since before her birth. All this sorrow has shaped her parents outlook. Her father left when she is about nine. He loves her but cannot stand the accusations and guilt from her mother who has become a raging alcoholic. She feels responsible for her mother and struggles to take care of her. Her best friend, Jack, is her only solace. Then one day, she falls thru the “Rift”. She battles to understand what is happening but with knowledge comes danger and she must decide if she will save her family and herself.

In the beginning, this storyline is told in chronological order. This sets the basis for greater understanding when the plot goes back in time and into the “Rift”. This is an effective way to tell this tale for ease in following the action. The author also fills the story with numerous twists and heart stopping moments that encourage you to keep reading until the end.

If you like novels with twists that border on the unexplainable with plenty of “what ifs” that we have all imagined, this is definitely the book for you. It is fast paced and you won’t want to put it down. Although it borders on the melancholy side, it will bring a smile to your face by the end. I would recommend this for teenaged readers to adults; the story concept may be too mature for younger readers.
