Review: "Georgia" by Dawn Tripp

I immensely enjoy fiction involving a known historical personality and this story does not disappoint. This is the story of American artist Georgia O’Keeffe and her complicated relationship with her lover and later husband, Alfred Stieglitz. From information gathered from letters exchanged between the two, the author gives the reader a glimpse into her life and the intricacies shared with Stieglitz that help shape her artwork.

Ms. Tripp brilliantly conveys Georgia’s thoughts and feelings throughout the entire story. You experience her joys and pains, from the time she first discovers her love for Stieglitz, the desire they share and the subsequent estrangement that comes in later life. You also get a glimpse into her passion and thoughts involving her iconic artwork.

If you liked Paula McLain’s The Paris Wife or Circling the Sun you will definitely love Georgia by Dawn Tripp. As with the others, this tells the story of a woman who learns to be strong on her own. I was also motivated to dig more deeply into Georgia O’Keeffe’s life, which every good historical fiction should inspire you to do.
