Review: "The Last Long Night (Bregdan Chronicles, #5)" by Ginny Dye

The first four books in the Bregdan Chronicles are excellent and page turning and The Last Long Night continues this well written series. This segment covers the fall of Richmond and the surrender of General Lee at Appomattox. As in the other books, the historical facts are correct but Ms. Dye also puts a human face on the suffering. With all her books in this series, she brings history to life and makes it easy to read and understand.

The author continues the storyline from the last book. The familiar characters are back and once again you become entwined in their lives, feeling their fears and joys. As in the previous chronicles, the story is filled with inspirational thoughts and adages that are memorable and have you grabbing for a highlighter or pencil. Ms. Dye does a wonderful job of keeping all the storylines of both the main and secondary characters moving forward.

This book can be read as a standalone if you are mainly interested in the last months of the Civil War but I highly suggest the whole series. The author makes this time period interesting for history buffs but the casual reader will also enjoy. Grab a warm blanket and snuggle down on a cold winter night because you won’t want to stop reading until you turn the last page.
