Review: "Edge of Eternity (The Century Trilogy #3)" by Ken Follett
Being the third book in the Century Trilogy, I thought perhaps it would get a little redundant but I was pleasantly surprised. The story starts in 1961 in East Germany with the hardships that the citizens of this communist country suffered. It continues to 2008. The story encompasses Russia, Germany and the United States. It picks up with the parents and grandchildren of the Dewar, Leckwith-Williams, Dvorkin-Peshkov and the Franck families and follows them through the turbulent 60s forward.
Once again, Ken Follett does an excellent job capturing historical events during this timeframe. Using his unique story-telling approach to relay the facts through his fictional characters, he conveys these incidents in a page-turning fashion that makes the book hard to put down. His characters bring the drama of this time period to life without getting bogged down in unnecessary details. He writes in such a way that you feel the passion and drama of the events as if you were there.
Definitely pick up this book, even if you haven’t read the first two in the trilogy. The author gives enough background detail that you can enjoy this without the others. Although all of these events happened in my lifetime, I was too young to comprehend what was actually taking place and this is a great story that piqued my interest. It allowed me to understand the emotionally charged atmosphere that I lived in as a child. It also makes me want to explore this time period in more depth.
